A recent trade with our friend Robin out in Golden, Colorado landed us a few cans of awesome from a brewery called Upslope located in Boulder. What sparked the trade was a mini documentary I had watched on the Denver scene, where they spent ample time at Upslope interviewing the owner and brewer discussing everything from self distributing to starting their brewery in the midst of a hop crisis. POOR HENRY’S
Off the beaten path of Myrtle Avenue in Montville, New Jersey lies a family restaurant that has been around for quite some time. Poor Henry’s was opened 39 years ago by Ken Garrity with two original locations. Presently, scaled down to one location, his son Jesse decided it was time to get into the craft beer game and that is exactly the direction they are headed now.
ANGRY ERIK BREWING COMPANY
With the laws passing last year, it seems like there are a lot more breweries throwing their hats in the ring here in New Jersey, which is very inviting seeing as the state used to be a brewing mecca. One of the newest breweries to get online here in NJ is Angry Erik Brewing, tucked away in Southern Sussex county offering small batch beers for the craft enthusiasts of the area. VICTORY CHILI CHALLENGE III
2014 marks the twelfth annual Victory Chili Challenge, pitting Victory Brewing Company employees against one another for bragging rights, a little cash, and the coveted People’s Pepper. About a month ago I got the email to be a judge at this year’s cook off, making it year number three that I am on the panel. Unless I am dead or incapacitated, I will always attend this event. Where else can you get your fix of tasty chili and some of the best beer we have on the East Coast? t The answer is no where; hands down, this is one of the best beer gatherings out there and for those that missed it we have the full scoop here.
CHILL TOWN CRAFT BEER FESTIVAL
As I sit here and open this article, I have realized that we have yet to write up a beer festival. So it gives me great pleasure to to promote of one of the newest festivals to hit the scene in New Jersey: Chill Town. Chill Town Craft Beer Festival is presented by the Visiting Homemaker Service of Hudson County, with all proceeds from the event benefiting the Child Abuse Program at Visiting Homemaker Service. We couldn’t pass up an opportunity to sponsor and attend the event for some coverage. Let’s see how the festival played out.
