It seems like more breweries are getting into the idea of making session beers for their consumers. Simple, low ABV, everyday-drinking brews are something that craft beer drinkers are looking for whether it’s at the bar or on store shelves. It gives consumers the ability to have more than a few flavorful beers without turning to the macro light lagers for the quantity over quality factor when drinking. One of the latest session beers to hit the market is Allagash Brewing Company House Beer.
House Beer is a Belgian pale ale coming in at 4.5% ABV. It’s obviously a sessionable beer but that’s not all Allagash had in mind with this one. Similar to that of a table wine, House Beer is meant to go along with a wide array of meals. I have yet to pair a bottle up with something but I can assure you House Beer’s light body and bready notes would be the perfect companion for a chicken or steak dish, maybe even a nice piece of fish with some grilled vegetables. I will be sure to update on any pairing dishes we do.
Unfortunately House Beer is only available at Allagash in Maine so you will either need to plan yourself a little vacation or find a noble trader in the North East for an exchange. The beer itself is $40 and the case is $20. Don’t worry – you won’t be spending $60 every time you want to fill up on House Beer. The standard refill price is $40, just don’t forget that sweet wooden case.
