Westbrook Brewing Company is making quite a buzz this past year. Making some really awesome beers, they have everything from sours to stouts, that in my opinion are some of the best beers in the country. Adam recently came across a bottle of their take on a Flanders Red, Mr. Chipper and we couldn’t wait to crack it and share the story of this beer with you.
This beer is fantastic! Aged in red wine barrel’s for two and half years, this Flanders style red is both tart and delicious. The beer is named after a red cardinal that used to fly around and about the brewery back in 2011 when the beer was originally made. It was only fitting to the name the beer after the bird as it’s red feathers complimented the color of the traditional, sour, red ale. For a beer that was put in a barrel about 3 years ago, Mr. Chipper is pretty damn tasty and I can only imagine it getting better with age. This was one of their first barrel beers when West Brook began in 2011 and I must say, they did a fantastic job. We look forward to more barrel beers from West Brook as the years go on. Cheers to Ed Westbrook and the gang down in South Carolina and Mr. Chipper himself, thanks for a wonderful sour. -Brian
