VICTORY CHILI CHALLENGE

I headed out to Victory Brewing Company this past Sunday for their 10th Annual Chili Cook Off. Five of us were selected to judge twenty-one different chili entries, and the entrants from Victory’s staff ran the gamut – everyone from the brewers to the serving staff had a chance to submit a recipe and compete against one another for some quick cash and the coveted People’s Pepper. I couldn’t have been more excited to fill my Sunday afternoon with some fresh Victory brews and quite possibly the largest spread of chili I have ever laid my eyes on. MARI’S 6 PAC AND MOR

While we were out in Pennsylvania last week we paid a visit to a very respectable bottle shop in Reading. I had been contacted by the store’s manager weeks earlier, inquiring if we would like to check out their thousand-plus bottles available for purchase. What’s that Dave? Over a thousand bottles? No more needed to be said, and I informed Mari and Dave that we would be there sooner than later. Continue reading “MARI’S 6 PAC AND MOR”

TERRAPIN WAKE-N-BAKE

Here we have a decent justification for beer with breakfast (for those of us who need the excuse). A collaboration beer between Terrapin and Jittery Joe’s Coffee, Wake-N-Bake is an Coffee Oatmeal Imperial Stout which can easily be substituted for that cup of joe in your morning routine. Well, not really, but it is one quality coffee stout and I’ll be damned if I don’t have this at some future brunch. Continue reading “TERRAPIN WAKE-N-BAKE”

THE STIRLING HOTEL

Yesterday Steve and I journeyed to one of New Jersey’s finest craft beer destinations – the Stirling Hotel. Located in Long Hill, the former town inn has been home to this family style tavern since the early eighties, offering great food and drink along with a friendly and comfortable atmosphere.  Beer geeks, restaurant management, and local brewers alike have been talking this place up; needless to say we were eager to take this trip to a historical jersey monument to grab a bite and check out their awesome beer selection. ROGUE VOODOO DOUGHNUT

I don’t even know where to begin with this one. A beer brewed with bacon? Rogue Ales recently hit the markets with a collaboration beer they created with Voodoo Doughnut out of Portland, Oregon. The beer features a slew of smoked malts, maple flavoring, and yes, bacon. Now I have had some smoked beers before that were a little overwhelming (and needless to say not to pleasant), so I was a bit skeptical about the thirteen dollar bottle of beer I had just purchased. After reading some mixed reviews online my skepticism only increased. I mean, you have to believe everything on the internet, right? Continue reading “ROGUE VOODOO DOUGHNUT”
