While they have always been around, I’ve seen the tide of session beers rise over the past several years, with more and more breweries turning out flavorful, drinkable beers that you can have a few of without taking the harder hit of a big beer. One session beer that I am particularly fond of is 21st Amendment Bitter American. Continue reading “21ST AMENDMENT BITTER AMERICAN”
CHURCHKEY
While only in operation since 2009, it’s safe to say that Churchkey is already legendary among beer drinkers who know where to go while in Washington DC to drink good beer. It’s hard to say enough about how staggeringly great the beer selection in this place is, but if you don’t want to hear excessive gushing and only have enough time to read another sentence, make it this one: Churchkey has a 30-page bottle list (550 different beers) and 55 taps (5 of which tap into casks).
VICTORY CHILI CHALLENGE
I headed out to Victory Brewing Company this past Sunday for their 10th Annual Chili Cook Off. Five of us were selected to judge twenty-one different chili entries, and the entrants from Victory’s staff ran the gamut – everyone from the brewers to the serving staff had a chance to submit a recipe and compete against one another for some quick cash and the coveted People’s Pepper. I couldn’t have been more excited to fill my Sunday afternoon with some fresh Victory brews and quite possibly the largest spread of chili I have ever laid my eyes on. MARI’S 6 PAC AND MOR
While we were out in Pennsylvania last week we paid a visit to a very respectable bottle shop in Reading. I had been contacted by the store’s manager weeks earlier, inquiring if we would like to check out their thousand-plus bottles available for purchase. What’s that Dave? Over a thousand bottles? No more needed to be said, and I informed Mari and Dave that we would be there sooner than later. Continue reading “MARI’S 6 PAC AND MOR”
TERRAPIN WAKE-N-BAKE
Here we have a decent justification for beer with breakfast (for those of us who need the excuse). A collaboration beer between Terrapin and Jittery Joe’s Coffee, Wake-N-Bake is an Coffee Oatmeal Imperial Stout which can easily be substituted for that cup of joe in your morning routine. Well, not really, but it is one quality coffee stout and I’ll be damned if I don’t have this at some future brunch. Continue reading “TERRAPIN WAKE-N-BAKE”
