While I was westward a few weeks ago, I attended a nice backyard BBQ to celebrate some birthdays. As usual, I was tasked with bringing some beer for the party. A six pack of refreshing Sierra Nevada Pale Ale was an obvious purchase, but I was looking for something else to bring that was easy drinking. Now I have only ever had Fat Tire on draft once, and I usually pass up the bottles in the store for my favorite New Belgium brew – Ranger IPA. Not on this trip however. As I perused the the small cold box of the shoddy gas station I noticed a twelve pack of Fat Tire cans. Array
CROOKED STAVE
I am sure a lot of you have heard of Crooked Stave Artisan Project but do you really know the story behind one of America’s greatest sour makers? I didn’t and I am happy to divulge some of the stuff I have been reading over the past few days about Chad Yakobson and his passion for brewing and working with the wild yeast that is brettanomyces. If you don’t know who Chad Yakobson is, let me give you a little background. Continue reading “CROOKED STAVE”
LAST CHANCE IPA
My family and I have recently rescued a dog and it is a topic that is near and dear to my heart. I am happy to finally sit down and write a few words for the good folks at Weyerbacher about this fantastic IPA. Continue reading “LAST CHANCE IPA”
SCHLAFLY AMERICAN IPA
It’s been over a month since we touched on a beer from the midwest, and what better way to get back in gear than with an awesome brew all the way from “The Show Me State.” If you didn’t pay attention in grade school, I am talking about the great state of Missouri, home to over 50 breweries (from the big guys like Anheiser Busch to awesome craft breweries such as Schlafly.) While we’re not really interested in the AB products so much, supporting folks like Schlafly is something we can get behind. Continue reading “SCHLAFLY AMERICAN IPA”
WORMTOWN BREWERY BE HOPPY
We have a lot of friends in the beer industry, some work at bars, others work at distributors and some even work at breweries. One of the coolest friends we have though is Tyler over at Iron Heart Canning. Iron Heart has been all over the North East lately, canning everywhere from Massachusetts all the way to Philadelphia. One of the breweries that Iron Heart is working with is Wormtown Brewery in Worcester, Massachusetts. Tyler was with Wormtown just twenty four hours before coming to New Jersey to can Bolero Snort Lucky Buck and brought us some cans of Be Hoppy, a seriously delicious India Pale Ale and a beer that I am writing in for my favorite of 2014 so far.
