We have had I Drink Good Beer up and running for about four years now, and despite that, there are still a lot of unturned stones in our own back yard. High Point Brewing Company is one such place and probably one of the best kept secrets in our craft brewing community. After working as a brewer in southern Germany, founder Greg Ziccardi returned to the US to open High Point in 1994 with German purity laws in mind. Filling a neat little niche, all of Ramstein’s beers are made to reinheitsgebot with the same care and precision Greg learned in Germany with all his ingredients coming straight from Bavaria.
BOLERO SNORT LUCKY BUCK
The whole craft beer in a can movement has really taken off the past half of the year. With mobile canning companies popping up all over the country, craft breweries are getting their beers into the packages way ahead of when they originally thought. One of those brewing companies is Bolero Snort here in New Jersey. Bob and Andrew have been promoting their beer hard, and coming up on one year of business this month, they are taking the necessary steps to keeps things interesting at Bolero Snort – starting with seasonal canned offerings of their smaller batches of beer. A FEW FROM UPSLOPE BREWING
A recent trade with our friend Robin out in Golden, Colorado landed us a few cans of awesome from a brewery called Upslope located in Boulder. What sparked the trade was a mini documentary I had watched on the Denver scene, where they spent ample time at Upslope interviewing the owner and brewer discussing everything from self distributing to starting their brewery in the midst of a hop crisis. POOR HENRY’S
Off the beaten path of Myrtle Avenue in Montville, New Jersey lies a family restaurant that has been around for quite some time. Poor Henry’s was opened 39 years ago by Ken Garrity with two original locations. Presently, scaled down to one location, his son Jesse decided it was time to get into the craft beer game and that is exactly the direction they are headed now.
ANGRY ERIK BREWING COMPANY
With the laws passing last year, it seems like there are a lot more breweries throwing their hats in the ring here in New Jersey, which is very inviting seeing as the state used to be a brewing mecca. One of the newest breweries to get online here in NJ is Angry Erik Brewing, tucked away in Southern Sussex county offering small batch beers for the craft enthusiasts of the area. We took a trip up to Angry Eriks on their opening day to say hello and obviously try some of their beer. Continue reading “ANGRY ERIK BREWING COMPANY”
