What do you get when you take classic arcade gaming and mix in some of the best American craft beer out there? You get a place that can only go by one name, Barcade. Barcade has made a name for themselves over the past few years, opening up a craft beer bar that was aimed in one direction. Good old arcade gaming and some of the best beer available. Barcade has had such great success with their project that they now have four locations including; Brooklyn, Jersey City, Philadelphia, and recently opened, Chelsea location in Manhattan.
A quick walk from Penn Station, the new Barcade has all the amenities of the others. Great games, good music, and beer from around the US with a heavy selection of local beer depending on your location.
One of the first things you notice around the bar is the abundance of vintage arcade games. Whether you are into driving games, shooters or just want to play some Turtles In Time, Barcade has the fix to scratch the itch.
They even have a Sega Hologram game, which I had never seen before at any arcade let alone a bar.
You can’t have a Barcade, with out Tapper.
Even though it was around lunch time, there were a few people popping in to get a quick game in before getting back to the rat race.
Do you think you could beat these high scores?
Barcade always has a great list and seeing as all the beer is American made, you can feel good that you are supporting small business.
24 taps in total, you can find everything from delicious Imperial Stouts, to hoppy IPA’s, and refreshing lagers.
They even tell you what’s on deck.
Doing all this shooting can make you a little thirsty. I decided to try the Finback Brewery, Coasted Toconut. This milk stout was quite tasty with a nice coconut character to play with the malty grain bill. Made right in the heart of Queens, this was one of the most local options on the menu.
As much as I wanted to spend all day here, I had some other tasks to do in the Village and had to press on. I would like to thank Leif and Lori for chatting it up with me and letting me shoot around. We wish everyone the best of luck at the new location and look forward to seeing the Barcade brand grow even bigger as they plan to open a fifth location in St. Marks, within the next year.
