What is the first thing that you think of when you hear Orlando Florida? You might think about Disney Land, Universal Studios or that it is hot as hell most year there but do you ever think about craft beer? I don’t know about you but when I travel around the country the number one thing on my radar, no matter where I go, is craft beer. No to far away from the highly flooded tourist section from Orlando is a strip of highway called East Colonial Boulevard that is home to numerous eateries and bars but there is one bar that stands out from them all and that is Oblivion Tap Toom.
This is my first beer bar that I am visiting in Florida that isn’t the standard Yard House or World Of Beer. While those places are great to grab a beer at, they aren’t as interesting as a one off place like Oblivion.
One of the things that grabbed my eye was the huge skull mural that was painted on the back side of the restaurant where the dart boards were held, giving off the feeling of rock and roll dive bar.
It’s nice to see that there is some recreation to partake in while enjoying a craft beer.
All around the restaurant there are painted murals of skeletons enjoying some of the aspects of the tap room.
Random winter lawn ornament in the Florida bar.
Craft brewery swag can be found adorning the walls whether it be a neon sign of metal tacker.
On the beer side of things, Oblivion offers a wide array of beer from around the world in both bottle and draft offering. With 40 rotating drafts and over 30 bottles there is definitely a beer for anyone that walks in the door.
Aside from the printed menu, the staff keeps their chalk board up to date highlighting some of the more rare drafts and bottles they are offering the day.
Like to sample beer? Oblivion offers 5oz pours on their 40 draft beers just in case you wanted to try the whole bunch.
They are rotating beers here everyday within the 24 hours of my first trip the night before, they were tapping new beers upon my arrival this day.
There is something about a full line up taps that gives me a warm feeling.
The bottle selection is just as interesting as the draft list. Different styles from different countries all find their way into the fridge here at Oblivion. There was some awesome writing on the top of the fridge that had to be noted.
I never buy bottles when I go out but I just had to have Bikini Beer from Evil Twin. I can’t believe there was so much hop flavor stuffed into this low abv pale ale.
You always drink local when you are out of town. Chances are it is the freshest beer that you will come across in your travels and 7 out 10 times it is usually good. Here we have 7venth Sun White Shadow, a belgian white ale brewed with Orange Peel, Coriander, Cardamom and Grains of Paradise. I had heard a lot about their beer before coming down to Orlando and was very excited to try some of 7venth Suns beer. Great work guys!!!
If you can find some time from your business trip or family vacation to experience a few pints while in Orlando, Oblivion Tap Room should be your number one spot. The awesome atmosphere, friendly staff and eclectic beer selection make it one of the best beer bars I have been to in my travels and I am most certainly looking forward to a return trip this winter. Thanks to Amber and Pete for letting me run around with the camera, they are doing a great job promoting craft beer scene in Florida and we can’t thank them enough. Stay tuned to their Facebook page for up coming events and new beer tappings. Cheers!
