I never thought I would dip into other realms of the alcoholic beverage on this blog but at some point you gotta switch things up. It’s not like I am going to be featuring Four Loko or shitty cocktails cans from your macro beer makers. I am talking about promoting other forms of craft like wine, cider and even mead. I am happy to kick things off with a local winery by me, just over the Pennsylvania border. Welcome to Buckingham Valley Vineyards.
Opened in 1966 by the Forest family, Buckingham Valley features French American vines growing over a half dozen varietals and producing around 20,000 cases of wine a year. Quite the feet for such a small wine maker.
My tour guide for the day was my friend, Erik Forsberg. He has been here for the last 8 years wearing many hats, assisting owner and winemaker, Jerry Forest, in every aspect of the vineyard.
They had just finished harvesting their grapes a few weeks back, I will be sure to get here earlier next year.
They are opened for tastings and of course you can buy some bottles to go.
A little champagne to wash away the morning coffee.
Thanks to Erik for showing me around the property, it was a pleasure seeing the vineyard and learning a lot more about wine and how it’s made. I can’t wait to come back and see some of the new vines in bloom next year. Cheers
