The most talked about brewery in the area everywhere we went was Burley Oak Brewing in Berlin, Maryland. Since it seemed like the best place to round out our trip to Delaware, we saved it for last. It was well worth the trip and we didn’t want leave. They have fantastic pales and sours making this a must for anyone wanting to seek out that oddity kind of beer.
Burley Oak has been making beer for a little or four years now and have made quite a name for themselves. Churning out 15 barrels at a time, they make everything from hoppy pale ales to fruity sours.
The Burley gang just happened to be doing a canning run while we were there. We love freshly canned beer so it was a real treat tasting their Secret Sauce right off the line.
We mentioned above that they do a few sour beers here. Owner, Bryan Brushmiller, is in the process of making the adjacent building to his brewery a haven for all things wild. They are calling it the Funk Factory and you can rest assured there will be some tasty sours coming out of it.
After a walk around the grounds it was time to check out the tasting room and dive into some of their beers.
A few glasses of Sorry Chicky were in order. A dry hopped Berliner Weisse.
You don’t just have to drink when visiting Burley Oak. There are plenty of games to play like shuffleboard and foosball. They even have live music on the weekends.
Want beer to go? Whats your preference? Growler, Cans, Bottles or Crowler? They have it all here and that’s the beauty of drinking at the source.
We are glad we saved this as our last stop on our Delaware beer trail. Burley Oak is part of the new wave of interesting beer makers we have in the country and we see them blowing up big this year so get there get there if you can and pay them a visit. Thanks to Bryan and the gang for having us out. It was a blast hanging out with you all and we can’t wait to return.
