We are big Game Of Thrones nerds here at I Drink Good Beer so with the premier of season four hitting HBO this past weekend, we couldn’t help ourselves but to have a feast that can only be fit for a king.Using the book that Jared got for Christmas, we picked an fantastic roast recipe out of the book with a few sides to make along with it.
You can’t have a Game Of Thrones dinner without a Game Of Thrones beer. Thank the gods old and new, that Ommegang is continuing on making these themed beers for the show. They have had a blond ale, a stout and have now looked to a red ale to pair up with season four that they call Fire and Blood.
I think Ommegang does a great job with the packaging on these beers and I am sure the bottle collectors out there are trying to get their hands on all three versions of this bottle, one for every dragon that Daenerys has.
Jared started to prepare the feast, cutting up some fresh herbs, carrots, and asparagus.
With the roast dry rubbed and seasoned up, it was time to stick in the oven.
While we had the roast going, it was time to heat up some of the side dishes that we picked out of the book to go with the meat. Our friends Dana and Pete brought this simple, yet delectable onions and gravy dish. Sweet and savory, I knew this would be the perfect companion for the beef it was to be plated with.
Another side we had was the Roman Buttered Carrots recipe from the book that our friends Tyler and Felicia had brought over. Slightly altered from the fish sauced lathered dish from kings landings, the raisins, carrots and honey went hand in hand to pair up with the meat.
To be a little healthy our designer Sara made this refreshing salad with lemon, olive oil and a bit a parmesan cheese.
With the show nearing it was time to pull the roast out of the oven and get to slicing.
Everything came out perfect and was absolutely delicious. Every side was a compliment to the roasted meat and vegetables. By the end, everyone was as well fed as Robert Baratheon himself.
All in all it was a great feast and we can’t wait to cook some more recipes out of this book. I highly recommend this cook book for anyone that is a fan of the show. It has recipe’s from all over Westeros with everything from breakfast to dessert and will be sure to make your next Game Of Thrones party just as awesome as the show. I hope you enjoyed the premier just as much as we did, it is going to be one hell of a season. Cheers!
