A few weeks back I had the pleasure of meeting Carl Oelker from Toucan Mobile Canning via our friend Tyler at Iron Heart. Since mobile canning has taken off around the country, there are a lot more people getting into the game and seeing as it is one of my favorite segments of craft beer as of late, I couldn’t help but to write a little piece about Carl and Toucan.
Starting three months after Iron Heart, Toucan Mobile Canning is located down in Tennessee and providing this awesome service for the breweries of the South East and slowly gaining popularity along the way.
Since things were a little slow down south Carl braved the cold and long trip up to the North East, bringing his mobile canning set up to help our friend Tyler at a few of his accounts. For the past two weeks he has killed it at Geary’s and Shipyard up in Maine and finished his stint up in Vermont with Good Citizens Cider.
Carl has always been into to beer and has consumed most of it out of aluminum his whole life. Since the craft beer scene is not that big down in the South East, Carl saw an opportunity with his father to start up their own canning service and are trying to get some of these South East breweries into canned packaging and stay ahead of the curve.
It was a pleasure meeting Carl and we can’t thank him enough for coming up to the North East and helping Tyler and Bolero Snort get their session IPA into cans. Carl is a beer advocate at heart and would love to put the South East on the canning map so if you have a brewery down there that you want to see packaged up, have them give Carl a buzz at Toucan Mobile Canning.
