Smuttynose was one of the first places we visited when we started our blog. In just five years they have grown up quite a bit and have made a name for themselves around the world. They are now expanding markets and recently moved into their new home at Towle Farm, which we have been dying to visit. As fate would have it. We wound up here a few weeks ago and were quite impressed with the new digs. Lets check it out.
As you can see from the outside. The new facility is massive. The 80 barrel brew house runs most of the week filling an array of 200 barrel fermenters.
Fermenters so big. That you need a scissor lift to pull samples.
Their brand new bottling line is state of the art. It does everything from folding boxes to filling and labeling the beer.
Although they still bottle. Smuttynose could not resist getting their beer in cans.
They are producing quite a bit of beer here. We were told that their number for the year would be over 60,000 barrels. That’s a fair amount of liquid.
After your tour you gotta have some beer. They give you four samples and then you can take your card across the way to Hayseed for another complimentary pour.
After wondering the production facility we had to grab a bite. Low and behold, Smuttynose has opened a nice farm to table restaurant in the original farm house that sat on this property. They call it, Hayseed.
The house was picked up and set back in the woods a bit. Check out this time lapse. It is quite a sight to see.
You will find almost every Smuttynose beer flowing, even the Smuttlabs brews. They are also featuring some of their favorite beers from around the country including Dogfish Head and Lagunitas.
The food menu will have your mouth watering.
After lunch we walked the grounds a bit more. Does this trailer look familiar to you?
There was a neat barn on the property as well. For now it is storage but there are plans to turn it into something special.
Brewery gift shops are always awesome. Smuttynose has everything from postcards to shirts and beer to go.
How about a tap handle or peanut brittle?
Thanks to the master of propaganda himself for having us out again. Towle Farm is a beautiful place and we look forward to seeing Smuttynose grow into it. With a disc golf course in the works, as well as an event hall. This is sure to become a great place for beer drinkers to gather.
