Southbound Brewing opened up it’s doors in Savanna Georgia just a little under two years ago. They are the first production brewery in town and are looking to offer the beer drinkers of Georgia just a little taste of what they can brew up.
We received a nice care package from them a few weeks back containing some cans of their Hopin IPA and Scattered Sun Wit. The main focus how ever was The Reaper. Their belgian quad made with raspberries and cocoa nibs.
While I am not the biggest belgian quad fan, I can appreciate the effort a brewer puts in for the particular style. It is not easy to make, and can easily go south (no pun intended) on some that are not familiar with belgian yeasts. I found it to be rather malty and while it’s not a bad thing for the style, it was just too much for my palate at the time of sampling.
If you are a belgian fan, this is one to seek out. It’s great to see a brewery like Southbound trying on styles that not to many are making state side. I would like to give a special thanks to Carly at Southbound Brewing for hooking us up with the care package. I can wait to share the rest in a future post. Cheers Georgia!
