ALE APOTHECARY SAHALIE

ALE APOTHECARY BLOG

Maker: Ale Apothecary – Oregon
STYLE: Mixed Fermentation, Wild Ale
ABV: 9.4%
IBU: N/A

NOTES: My good friend Matt Ward, aka, Bend Brew Daddy was nice enough to shoot us over this bottle of goodness and it is hands down on of the coolest beers we have tried to date. Sahalie is one of Ale Apothecary’s main beers and it is like no other wild beer you will have in the country. Brewed in small batches and only found in Oregon, this mixed fermentation ale is pack with all sorts of funk. Sipped slowly over an hour it developed all sorts of notes. Fruit and barn yard are dominant and its the perfect amount of tartness without being overly acidic. Sour fans should seek it out as it is really something special and a testament to how awesome our sour makers are here in the U.S.

MOVEMBER KICK OFF

BOLERO SNORT BLEND MOVEMBER

What a great day for a great cause. Blend really knows how to kick off a Movember. No I didn’t spell November wrong. Movember is a global foundation that promotes and is committed to men living happier and healthy lives. Every year the foundation takes over the month of November and men all around the country lop off their facial hair in support. Donations come in from all around the world and that brings me to Blend on this fine November Sunday.

A bar I have been meaning to get to and a great supporter of the local beer scene, Blend’s manager, Rick Stripp, has been supporting Movember for years.

“I started doing Movember 5 or 6 years ago with my little bro Dan, and we do it in memory of our mom’s dad who passed from prostate cancer before we ever met him.  I always have a full beard, so I figured shaving it would really make people take notice.”

“I pitched a half-serious idea of a milk stout for Movember to the Bolero guys last September (based off a bad “milk mustache” joke), not really thinking they’d do it but figuring if anyone would it’d be them.  Clearly, they did.  They even threw a secret shout out to me on the bottle (look for my initials)”

Scott was sad to look like Paul senior from OCC but he helped raise some serious dollars for the day.

I too shaved to a mustache.

Everyone had a blast and more than $2,000 was donated for the day.

I suppose you want to know about the beer. It’s a sweet milk stout and it’s awesome. Possibly one of the best stouts to try this season if you are a Jersey beer drinker.

The beer is available of draft all month at a slew of places and can be found in bottles wherever Bolero Snort is sold.

That about wraps things up. This post is more about supporting the cause than anything. If you are interested in donating to the foundation, please click the links below and jump on the Movember train.
